Your files never leave your browser

PubOpener is built so that your .pub file is opened and converted entirely on your device. There is no upload step, no account, and the server has no endpoint that can receive a file.

Verify it yourself

  1. Open your browser’s developer tools (F12) and select the Network tab.
  2. Convert a .pub file.
  3. You will see no request that carries your file — only the page’s own assets, the small requests of the two visit counters described below (/p/c and Google Analytics), and Google’s ad requests.

What we do collect

We count visits with two counters, and the banner at the bottom of the page names both.

Our own cookie-free counter runs on our own server (self-hosted Umami) and stores nothing on your device. It receives the page you are on (its public address, without anything after ? or #), the site you came from (only the site, not the page), your browser and operating system, device type, language and screen size, and a short list of fixed events such as “a file was opened” or “a conversion to PDF happened”, with bucketed values like a size range. Your IP address is used to estimate your approximate location (country, region and city) and to recognise repeat visits from the same browser within a calendar month; the address itself is not stored, and visits are never linked to a name or an account. It counts visitors who do not answer the banner. Choosing “No thanks” stops it.

Google Analytics measures the same aggregate traffic. It sets cookies in your browser only if you choose “Accept”; until then, and after “No thanks”, it still receives cookie-free measurement pings in Google’s consent mode. Google receives the full address of the page you are on (including anything after ?), the page you came from, the page title, and your IP address and browser details, as Google Analytics does on any site.

Neither counter ever receives your file names, your file contents, or anything from inside your .pub files — those are read entirely on your device, this site never puts them into a page address, a title or an event, and they are never sent anywhere.

Advertising

PubOpener shows ads served by Google AdSense, including on the page where you convert files. Like ads on any website, Google’s ad code runs in your browser while the page is open. PubOpener never sends your files or their contents to Google or to anyone else, and does not hand them to the ad code.

Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads, which can be based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent first through a Google-certified consent message. You can turn off personalised ads in Google’s Ad Settings and read how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Server logs

Like every website, our web server records each request: the time, the address requested, your IP address, your browser’s user-agent string and the referring page. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure. Older entries are deleted automatically; we keep only a rotating window of roughly the last one to two months.

PubOpener (pubopener.pro) is built and operated by SSV Studio. Questions about this page or your data, including requests to access or delete it: write to support@ssvstudio.dev or use the contact form at ssvstudio.dev. We do not sell your data.
